She Was My Light

She was my light in the morning
before the sun would rise
she was the sparkle of my nights
like the stars laid out across the skies
she filled my days with walks
along the ocean shores
she was the holder of my heart
and she was certainly much more

We talked together all the time
of things we each had to do
we shared our dreams and wishes
and gave each other all we knew
we danced alone without music
as if we both knew the tune
and we were always surprised
at how each day passed too soon

One day there will be a rocking chair
for me on some cabin porch
she'll grace many of my memories
and my heart will still bear a torch
I'll travel out to touch her soul
leaving my vision for her mind to see
and once again she'll give me a smile
as time closes in on destiny
